little mermaid -marte 6/12/18
A mermaid sits on a wet rock. She has a long gray fishy tail. Her upper body is grayish white. It has the texture and the color of a cod filet. The mermaids arms are boneless and have tiny suction cups, almost like the arms of an octopus. However, she does have fingers. The fingers are tiny and placed at the tip of her tentacles. They end in pink delicate suction cups. They look like sea anemones or like a new born babies fingers.
Yes. She has breasts. Or at least where you would put her breasts there are liquid saggy bags. Tiny little sea creatures have sucked themselves to her nipples.
The mermaids face is round, almost flat. She looks like a deep water fish. Still she looks humanoid. Her face too is very slimy.
Her long green hair however is covering her face. She is combing it.
Even though she is slimy all over, the scales on her tail are flaking off. There are real dead fish on the ground.
The mermaid opens her mouth and sings.
The sound is not human. It is both ugly and hauntingly beautiful. Its smells strongly of seaweed and rotten fish.
She sings. Then coughs.
A ball of slime comes up as she coughs. She rubs it into her tail. It looks a little more healthy now, not so dry.
The mermaid keeps singing and combing her hair. A seemingly dead fish suddenly flips its tail.
The mermaid instantly looks at the fish. Intensely. Then she turns towards the audience as if looking for something. She pulls the hair off her face. We see her face clearly now.
Her eyes are almost glowing. Her eyeballs are like two giant mother of pearls. Or maybe like the eyes of a decaying cod. Milky white with no pupil.
Her mouth is very wide. She has sharp, white almost translucent teeth and gills.
She sings a serenading trill. It almost resembles the Disney song, “someday my prince will come”. Her voice is similar, yet full of mucus.
There are no words or melody. It’s a mating call.
You instantly respond to it.
She sniffs the air.
She looks down on the fish. It is still flopping.
She brushes her hair one more stroke, then pulls her comb out.
The comb looks like a clamshell fork.
The mermaid sits still for a while just staring at the fish.
Suddenly in a flash she throws the comb at the fish. It hits the fish over the neck. The head falls off.
She bends down and her one arm travels over to the fish, elongating as it stretches. Her finger touches it and the fish head starts traveling up her arm as if on a conveyer belt.
Half way up the motion stops, and she looks at the audience again.
Adjusting her voice to a slightly lower level, she calls again while tasting on words. Kind of like a domesticated bird or someone speaking in a tone and language they never knew before. Her voice is slimy, yet flirtatious.
Mermaid: You…You are out there. Are you not?
The fish starts traveling again. Like an octopus she is tasting it with her suction cups. Kind of she is talking while eating, yet her moth is empty. The slime is getting dryer. Her lips stick to each other as she talks.
Mm: I’m waiting for you to come rescue me. I dream to be human like you.
She kind of absentmindedly licks the fish.
Mm: Why won’t you come rescue me?
Im old. Im finally old enough to surface.
Mm: You have been dreaming about me, haven’t you?
She swallows the fish, like a seagull. Its efficient
Mm: I know you are out there. You know I am all yours.
She starts singing again. It resembles someday my prince will come, but in strange foreign words. Guttural. Its so beautiful you almost have to cry.
She is staring intensely now at a fixed point in the audience.
Mm: I have found you! My prince
She smiles.
Without moving her eyes that are now completely fixed, and slithers down from the rock. She is leaving a slimy trail, like a giant slug. When she slowly slithers over the floor you can hear she is kind of getting stuck. Shells are falling off. She is singing
Slowly and with great effort she is slithering towards the first row.
Mm: It hurts to be half fish. I want to be human
She grabs her knife. With two of her four arms she is holding herself up. With the other two she cuts off her tail by her waist. She does this with great effort. Her tail is twisting and turning. As if half of her is trying to get away. It’s a fight, but finally she manages. She sits on the floor, tail next to her. She is panting.
Mm: I want you to love me
She looks at her chosen audience member again.
Mm: Ill do anything for your love
With her arms she starts pulling herself towards the audience again. She does so with great pain, but extreme determination. She stops for a moment. She is breathing, she is focused. She looks down. Then she looks up at her audience member again.
Mm: My prince. Im so happy you are mine.
We see another set of tentacles coming out of her torso where her cut of tail had been. Its almost like she is giving birth.
The new tentacles are translucent white. Almost pink. At the very end they have tiny little pink high heeled shoes.
Then she caughs, rubs the slime on her feet, stands up and leaps towards the audience.
Black out.
